Expert-led tour of the exhibition Revisited

Kristján Helgi Magnússon’s paintings garnered significant attention upon his emergence on the art scene nearly a century ago. His reputation was not limited to Iceland, as he also held exhibitions of his art in cities on both sides of the Atlantic, where critics praised his landscapes, portraits and still lifes. In contrast, the reception of his art within Iceland was more ambivalent. Today, few people are familiar with his work and his name is rarely mentioned in discourse on Icelandic art. Nevertheless, his contribution to art is substantial and interesting in many ways. In a forthcoming retrospective, the National Gallery of Iceland will showcase the works of this short-lived artist, who died in 1938 aged only 34, after a brief but interesting career.

Attn. the event will be held in Icelandic.
