If you’re 14 to 16 years old and have survived the 8th grade, it's time to check out Aviation Explorer Post 8! We've been a little secret in Topeka since 1952.
🛩️ OPEN HOUSE: Saturday, August 9, 2025
📍 Billard Airport | ⏰ Open from 9 AM until noon.
🎉 Free plane rides for potential scouts (weather permitting, pilots don’t mess with thunderstorms 🌩️)
👨✈️ Meet real pilots, instructors, and the scouts who already speak fluent "airplane."
Bring your parent(s) -- they’ll want to see what you're signing up for before you commit Saturday mornings to a new aviation interest.
🤓 What do Aviation Explorer Scouts do? Find out at our Open House!
🛫 Work toward your private pilot certificate using our own Post planes (and way cheaper than flight school) after passing ground school.
🎤 Hear from aviation pros (think airline captains, airport ops, maybe even a stunt pilot or two)
🧭 Go on epic field trips to aviation & science facilities
🧠 Gain leadership, communication, and “my future is so cool” skills. Really! Learn to win disagreements with siblings!
🎪 Attend the world’s largest air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Ready for takeoff? Come see what Post 8 is all about and meet our current Post 8 Explorers . This might just be the coolest thing you do before school starts (sorry waterpark and goofy golf).
