First Annual Nautical City Festival Beach Volleyball Tournament
Lakeside Park, Rogers City, Michigan
6-on-6 Beach Volleyball Rules & Expectations:
1. Scoring
β’ All matches are best 2 out of 3 sets.
The first two sets are played to 21 points, win by 2.
β’ If a third set is needed, it will be played to 15 points, win by 2.
Rally scoring is used (a point is scored on every serve).
β’ Teams will switch sides after every set to ensure fair play.
2. Team Format
β’ Games are played 6 vs 6.
β’ Teams must rotate clockwise each time they gain the serve.
β’ Substitutions rotate in at the serve.
3. Serving
β’ Serve from behind the end line.
β’ Only one serve attempt is allowed per turn.
β’ Serves that make contact with the net and go over are acceptable.
4. Hits Per Side
β’ Teams may take up to 3 touches to return the ball.
β’ No player may hit the ball twice in a row, except when making a block.
β’ A block does not count as one of the three hits.
5. Legal Hits
β’ Players may use any part of their body to hit the ball.
β’ Tips are allowed.
β’ Catching or throwing the ball is not permitted.
6. Net & Boundary Rules
β’ Only significant net contact that interferes with the play will be called.
β’ You may step under the net as long as it does not interfere with the other team.
β’ If the ball lands on the line, it is in.
β’ If the ball lands outside the line, it is out.
β’ The ball must pass over the net to be in, outside the posts is considered out.
7. Sportsmanship & Disputes
β’ Good sportsmanship and respectful behavior are expected at all times.
β’ In the case of a disputed or unclear call, teams are encouraged to talk it out calmly and reach a fair resolution on the court.
β’ If a resolution cannot be reached, the play will result in a redo.
