Kaleidoscope Quilts by Janet Clement

Hundreds of small bits of many colors of fabric make up Janet Clement’s work in the upcoming art show, Kaleidoscope Quilts, at the Merrymeeting Art Center in Bowdoinham.
Using the “refractive mirror” of symmetry, her quilts evoke a wide spectrum of imagination and feeling. As mandalas, they are meditative works of art – contemplations on hearts, the
seven virtues and their counterparts, the zodiacal constellations, and color itself. She uses the bargello technique of graduating shades in a step-up, step-down composition, affording the opportunity to use color galore. Clement, a quilter for over twenty years and a seamstress for much longer, is one of the founders of Maine Moden Quilts, and a member of Art Quilts Maine, Tacoma Lakes and Backroads, chapters of the Maine Pine Tree Quilters Guild.
Opening Reception: Friday, August 1 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm.
Gallery Hours: Saturdays, August 2, 9, 16 & 23, 10:00 am.- 2:00 pm.
This event is free and open to the public thanks to our generous donors.
