Chamber Obscura return to Paris Cat Jazz Club, performing tango works by Argentina’s infamous Astor Piazzolla and original flamenco pieces by guitarist Kieran Ray.
The concert will feature pieces by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, who revolutionised traditional tango music by infusing it with jazz and classical influences. Alongside these works will be original tangos written by accordion/double-bass player and composer Phil Mcleod.
Flamenco, the Spanish artform originating in Andalusia, also combines tradition with improvisation. It is an artform grounded in discipline that highlights individuality and freedom of expression. Chamber Obscura will present original flamenco compositions by guitarist Kieran Ray, arranged especially for this instrumentation. Also featuring will be pieces that draw on afro-cuban and flamenco traditions, combining classical skill with virtuosic improvisation.
We look forward to seeing you in the Basement for a fantastic night of new and classic chamber music, played by some of Melbourne’s great local artists.
-Line-Up:
Kieran Ray- Guitar
Sophie Dunn- Violin
Suzanne Andrews- Piano
Phil Mcleod- Accordion, Double Bass
