Willow Weaving Workshop - Lughnasa Festival at Lough Gur

As part of our Lughnasa celebrations, Lough Gur Visitor Centre, with the support of the Department of Agriculture, food and the Marine, are delighted to announce this willow weaving workshop on the shores of gentle Lough Gur.
WIllow weaving is an ancient craft, and though it oftentimes leaves a faint archaeological resonance, it has almost certainly been a consistent feature in the lives of all the people who called Lough Gur home across the centuries. Willow would have been used to create many items, baskets and fishing traps, as just two examples of a multitude of uses.
Elaine Feely is a locally based willow weaving artist and expert, with her willow also being locally sourced. She will provide an introduction into this important and venerable skill and show newcomers to the craft how to work the willow and shape its form. Participants will leave this workshop with a new appreciation of willow weaving alongside a completed willow flower that they will have crafted with their own hands.
A perfect way to spend a Sunday morning in August, on the tranquil shores of Lough Gur. The workshop begins at 10am and finishes at 13.30pm.
Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
