Northern Dartmoor: Fur Tor from the north

This walk is a strenuous 14 miles and being led by Stephen.

A strenuous northern Dartmoor hike where we walk to Dartmoor's most remote tor from the north. The plan is to start from the car park to the southeast of Okehampton Camp, near Rowtor (not marked on the OS Maps), and then pass to the south of Rowtor, heading southwestwards to climb West Mill Tor. From here we will head southwards to Dinger Tor and then Great Kneeset, before climbing to Fur Tor for lunch. I haven't yet decided on the exact return route, but it will definitely include a visit to East Mill Tor, and finally Rowtor.

The terrain underfoot will be variable. Some of it will be easy, but from Dinger Tor southwards it will be across open moorland, some of which will be rough (hence the strenuous rating), so please wear walking boots. We will also have to cross three streams, which under normal circumstances should be straight forward enough, but it could be tricky if there has been recent heavy rain. The most likely distance of the walk will be around 14 to 15 miles, but I will probably either shorten it or postpone it if rain and strong winds are forecast, or if there is widespread hill fog, or indeed if it is too hot. Please make sure you bring plenty of water with you, and dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
