This course offers an introductory examination of bookmaking and bookbinding, delving into the historical evolution, significance, and techniques of the medium. As an introductory studio course, it emphasizes how these practices have influenced the presentation, preservation, and cultural impact of written works throughout history. The curriculum covers various binding methods, materials, and production techniques, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the art and craft of bookmaking. Open to all experience levels, appropriate for anyone ages 10+.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻 is an artist and designer based in the heart of western Minnesota. His creative journey spans typography, painting, and graphic design, but his passion extends into the world of folk arts, including woodworking and bookbinding. Growing up on the wide plains of western Minnesota, he was immersed in a rich tradition of folk arts from an early age. One of his most cherished memories is watching his grandfather skillfully craft toys and furniture in his woodshop. Fueled by curiosity and a love for adventure, he honed his skills during countless family camping trips, where the great outdoors became his canvas and inspiration.
