2025 Bitter Lake NWR Dragonfly Festival!

Save the Date! Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge and Friends of Bitter Lake will host this free, unique, fun for all ages - annual Dragonfly Festival Saturday, September 6th, 2025! Call to reserve your spot to join professional dragonfly experts on a FREE guided tour to learn about our many dragonflies and damselflies (we have over 100 different species that use the refuge!); guided refuge tours, learn about rattlesnakes of New Mexico (live demo 11:00 a.m.) and raptors (live demo 2:00 p.m.); try your skills at archery; arts and crafts, and release a tagged Monarch butterfly (12:00 p.m.)! Be sure to call to reserve your free ticket for the butterfly release.

Boy Scouts and other vendors will be on hand for food and more items. Join our partners and learn about what they do for conservation or nature.

Reservations for free guided tours and free monarch butterfly release tickets start August 1st, call to reserve at 575-244-6256.

In addition, there will be a Friday night program in the refuge auditorium (Friday, September 5th) about dragonflies at 6:30 p.m. Then join Roswell Astronomy club afterwards out on the deck to view the night sky at 7:30 p.m. through powerful telescopes.
