Jessie Lehmann’s love of West African drumming started during college in North Carolina in the late 1990's. Her first trip to West Africa, both Guinea and Ivory Coast was in 2001 with a college group studying with Koumbagna Conde of Percussions de Guinea and the Dembele family and Yelemba D'Abidjan of Ivory Coast. Following trips were in 2007, and 2017.
Through the years Jessie has taught in schools, and communities throughout the country and world as well as in Beirut, Lebanon. She has performed hundreds of times with drum and dance ensembles composed of Americans and Africans, started and directed an all Women's drum and dance ensemble called Boom Chix, and was a musician traveling around the country and world for a corporate leadership training program called Sewa Beats. She now lives in Glenwood Springs, Colorado teaching community West African drumming classes and playing in an all-original reggae band called The Knowbodies Band.
