From Gatsby to Grace: Tour of Elm Court

✨ Join us for a serendipitous opportunity to explore a timeless historic gem as it embraces a new chapter. ✨

Discover Elm Court, an architectural treasure named for the graceful American Elms that once shaded West Market Street's prestigious “Millionaire’s Row.” Built in 1912 by renowned architect Howard Van Doren Shaw for the visionary trailblazer and inventive genius, Arthur Hudson Marks - who helped shape the future of Akron’s thriving rubber industry —this home once hosted lavish parties reminiscent of The Great Gatsby.

In 1923, Elm Court shed its impish revelry and transformed into a sacred space when the Sisters of St. Dominic acquired it, dedicating it as The Ladies of the Elms Convent and founding what is now Our Lady of the Elms.

After serving as a spiritual sanctuary for over a century, the motherhouse closed in 2024, opening a new chapter for this historic site.
