In this talk, we will be focusing on learning field identification skills of key terrestrial invasive plant species impacting Midcoast Maine, such as Norway Maple (Acer platanoides), Shrubby Honeysuckle (Lonicera spp.), Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii), Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora), Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata), Ornamental Jewelweed (Impatiens glandulifera), and more.
Louisa Crane, Program Development Specialist at KLSWCD, led the efforts in 2021 on phase two of the invasive plant management plan at Merryspring. She helps landowners and organizations identify invasive plant species and develop invasive plant management plans.
This program will require some standing and walking around Merryspring’s grounds, primarily in the horticultural garden area. We may venture a couple hundred feet onto some woodland trails.
Please join us each Tuesday at noon for an in-person talk in the Hexagon on ecology, horticulture or conservation.
In-person Tuesday Talks are free for members and $10 for non-members (cash and check). Thanks to our sponsors Reny's a Maine Adventure and Riverhouse Hotel & Inns.
Merryspring is your community nature center offering walking trails, cultivated gardens, wildlife, and ecology and horticulture educational programs all year round. The park is located at the end of Conway Road, just off of Route 1 in Camden behind Hannaford Shopping Plaza.
