Town of Occoquan will permit fishing exclusively for northern snakehead fish in River Mill Park on Sunday, August 3 between the hours of 8:00pm-11:00pm.
In this pilot event, licensed fishers will be encouraged to catch and K*ll the invasive northern snakehead species from the River Mill Park area of town. Town staff and police will provide on-site monitoring to ensure compliance with all rules, public safety, and park integrity.
To ensure ethical, safe, and ecologically responsible practices, the following rules will be enforced:
🐟 Fishing license required. All participants must possess a valid Virginia state fishing license.
🐟 Catch & K*ll Only: All northern snakeheads caught must be humanely killed and may not be released.
🐟 No spearfishing: Spearfishing is prohibited from the park.
🐟 Leave no trace: All anglers must remove their own trash and fish remains. A designated waste station will be available for disposal.
