---------------------

We’ll take the 9:50 AM ferry from Lyttelton Jetty to Diamond Harbour. You can pay with cash, Metrocard, or EFTPOS on the ferry - no booking required.

From Diamond Harbour Wharf, we’ll follow the Cliff Track to Purau Beach, where we’ll stop for lunch. From the beach, we’ll walk up Bay View Road, then follow the lower section of the Mt Herbert Walkway (I believe this section remains open during lambing season, as there aren’t any sheep in the reserve) down to Diamond Harbour Beach where we'll let the kids throw some rocks to the sea and find some crabs. From there, we'll head back to Diamond Harbour Wharf.

The loop is about 6 km with about 300 m of vertical ascent - a decent trip for little legs. Our pace will be dictated by the kids - we’ll stop when they stop, walk when they walk, and eat when they want to eat - so we’ll likely be moving at a very slow pace. I expect the whole trip will take us at least 5 hours.

Here’s a detailed map of our intended route:

(See walk 2 on page 2, "Return loop 2")

Feel free to bring some toys for the beach, like a frisbee or a ball. Your child should be able to walk the entire route, or you’ll need to be able to carry them. Bring warm clothes and spares, as our kiddos may get wet at the beach. Take plenty of food too.

Public toilets are available at Lyttelton Jetty, Purau Beach, and Diamond Harbour Beach. There are a few relatively short sections where we’ll be walking along fairly quiet roads - please take extra care regardless :)
