Junk Zine (Age 8+) – Summer Holiday Workshops

Junk Zine Workshop. Join us for this new workshop with tutor Jess Hyde to create your own original Zine from a treasure trove of mixed media ‘junk’.

These Zines are a lot of fun, the idea is to use an array of scrap materials like paper, old receipts, sweet wrappers, stickers etc to create something fun and visually interesting. The zines don’t need to have a theme or meaning, but of course they can do. Sometimes once a junk zine starts coming together, it develops a theme subconsciously.

The finished result should be a personal mini piece of mixed media art to take home to treasure forever!

Jessica is a painter as well as an independent comic book writer and illustrator, who teaches a regular Comic Book class at Courtyard Arts and hopes to bring her enthusiasm in this genre to run a regular class at Southern Maltings too. Come and try her workshop to see if you might like a future class.

Our new tutor Jessica, will engage the children in various activities to build their artistic skills and confidence in their ability to draw and create from their imagination. Children will try out a range of techniques will all materials provided. After this workshop your kids will have the tools and inspiration to look a junk as creative treasure and will be making Junk Zines all summer long!

This workshop is designed for children aged 8+ and all materials will be provided.

Just bring your creativity and enthusiasm, and we’ll take care of the rest!

This is a drop off workshop with our DBS certified tutor with a maximum of 12 students.

The session of Wednesday 6th August at 2pm lasts for 2 hours and is costed at £13.

The workshop will take place in our downstairs function space with access from the main door on Kibes Lane Car Park.

We are currently undergoing an exciting redevelopment of our Café area at the East End of the building. We ask that families arrive and enter the building via our front door on Kibes Lane Car Park and not the East End of the building. Please note this is not a step free access and has a short run of 5 steps.

Southern Maltings is the trading name of Ware Arts Centre Limited and is a registered charity (Registered charity no. 276998). All events are run by volunteers and proceeds go towards developing the Southern Maltings into an amazing creative arts centre which will enable us to put on a wider and more frequent range of events and activities for the whole community.
