Come discover the fast-flying world of hummingbirds in this hands-on homeschool program at Seven Islands State Birding Park! We’ll explore what makes these tiny birds so unique, how they migrate incredible distances, and how you can help them thrive in your own backyard. Through games, guided observation, and a short hike, students will engage with nature and learn how scientists study hummingbirds. This program encourages curiosity, sharp observation skills, and a deeper appreciation for native wildlife.
This program is recommended for homeschool students ages 6–12. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 9:00 AM. Be prepared to walk 1 mile over both paved and unpaved surfaces. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will last approximately 1.5 hours and includes a mix of indoor and outdoor activities.
The cost of this program is $5.00 per participating student.
Please come prepared with good walking shoes, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals. Dress appropriately for the weather, and bring a notebook or sketchpad if you’d like to record your observations.
