The Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds are everywhere right now and very active at feeders and gardens in our area. Don't miss out on this opportunity to get an up-close look at how the professionals at Seven Islands State Birding Park catch hummingbirds and then band them. Program participants will be able to watch and ask questions as we catch and band these magnificent little birds. Ever wonder how much a hummingbird weighs or how you can tell males from females or if a bird is a juvenile? Come join us as we discuss what makes hummingbirds so fascinating and learn about the birds' upcoming migration. After a hummingbird has been banded, some lucky program participants will be able to hand-release the birds! How many people do you know that can say they had a hummingbird fly from their hand before? Pretty cool experience that you can brag about later to your friends!

Registration for this program is $15 per person. Please meet the program guide at the Bluebird Barn by the main entrance off Kelly Lane by 8:00am. The guide will lead the group on the 1-mile hike down Kelly Lane Greenway to the Green House where the hummingbird banding will take place. Any questions regarding this program should be directed to Ranger Clare at Y2xhcmUgISBkYXR0aWxvIHwgdG4gISBnb3Y= or 865-407-8335.
