This Perinatal Mental Health Group is open to new and expecting parents up to one year postpartum who are seeking support to strengthen their mental health. The group will explore the changes and challenges that come with the journey into parenthood along with practical strategies and supportive exercises. Topics and themes explored include how pregnancy and parenthood affect the brain, changing roles, identity and relationships, body image, building your support system, and mental health strategies. Birthing and non-birthing partners are welcome and this group is open to new parents and those with older children who are expecting. This group is being hosted by the Pender Island Health Centre with support from the Ministry of Children and Family Development and Victoria Foundation.
The facilitators:
Adrienne Moya, MSW, RSW, RCC
Adrienne (she/they) is currently a Mental Health Clinician with Island Health and works in private practice specializing in reproductive mental health. She has extensive experience in reproductive and sexual health, women's health concerns, and LGBTQI2+ health. Adrienne is trained in Cognitive Behavioural and Mindfulness-based therapies.
Sandi Smoker, MA, CSCP
Sandi (she/her) is currently working as the Mental Health Program Supervisor for Pender Islands Health Care Society where she serves as Counsellor and Art Therapist candidate, specializing in children and family mental health, and grief and bereavement. Sandi is a Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner with clinical experience in psychiatry, critical care, and palliative care.
