Our latest Concert Night at Paul Henry's Art Gallery will feature two of the leading music talents in our area, Dennis Leise, who will play the opening set, and headliner Steve Dawson to follow. The show is Friday, August 1st, 7-9:30 pm, $20.
--------------------
Chicago Folk / Americana singer/songwriter Steve Dawson, has been called β€œone of the most underrated songwriters in American music." He writes graceful, poetic songs akin to a volume of great short stories in their precise, exacting wordplay and soulful heartache. Hope, a poet wrote, is a thing with feathers, perched in the soul and singing a tune without words. In the hard-won and hopeful songs of Steve Dawson, the words are very much present – supple, wise, spilling out hard truths – and the tunes are crystalline – often they offer the clearest glimpse of hope after all. Dawson has released six albums with his long-time band, Dolly Varden, and six solo albums. He has emerged as a first-rate soul singer, a jazz-minded lead guitarist and an uncompromising songwriter who weighs the emotional space between darkness and light. Dawson also teaches songwriting at the legendary Old Town School of Folk Music and in 2020 he was awarded the Esteemed Artist Award from the City of Chicago. He has played fixtures in many of the major music venues in Chicago and it is a pleasure to showcase his talent here in Northwest Indiana.
---------------------

Opening the show on Friday is veteran singer-songwriter
Dennis Leise, a transplanted Pennsylvanian who has lived
in the Chicago area for fifteen years. Eight years ago
Dennis purchased land in Calumet Township and in short
order built a farm on the grounds while holding down a
regular job and advancing his music career. He has begun
playing many of the popular music clubs in Chicago, has
written, recorded and produced several albums and has
appeared many times at Paul Henry's since before COVID.
When you listen to Dennis perform you are drawn into
his music by his excellent guitar work which compels you
to stay tuned to each song to process his vitriolic and humor-laced lyrical lampoons that cast an acid bath on various subjects including sanity, invasive plants, barnyard society the mortal coil and the slog of the political spectrum. Dennis is comfortable in genres that include western swing, rockabilly, blues, gospel and vintage country.
