Tenor saxophone master Dean Masser returns!
Prepare for an evening of hard-swinging, lyrical jazz from one of the UK's most respected instrumentalists.
Dean Masser, an alumnus of the esteemed Leeds College of Music, quickly made his mark on the jazz scene as a member of the Jack Parnell Quartet, recording a live album during a memorable week-long residency at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s. Since then, Masser has built an impressive career, performing alongside many of the leading lights in British jazz at countless venues and festivals across the country. His talent has also graced both television and radio, and he released his acclaimed debut album as a leader in 2010. Masser is also widely recognised as the dynamic co-leader of the popular Jazz Worriers alongside trumpeter Neil Yates, a partnership that has delighted audiences with its vibrant energy.
Much like his long-time hero, the iconic Dexter Gordon, Masser is celebrated for his hard-swinging, lyrical, and deeply melodic saxophone style. Attendees can look forward to an evening featuring classic Gordon numbers such as "Cheese Cake" and "Fried Bananas," alongside a selection of well-known jazz standards, all delivered with Masser's characteristic warmth and inventiveness.
Leading the rhythm section for this special engagement will be the exceptional pianist Dean Stockdale. Known for his sensitive and swinging approach, reminiscent of jazz giants like Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans, Stockdale is a highly sought-after musician who regularly performs across the UK with his trio and alongside some of the finest names in British jazz. His profound understanding of the jazz piano tradition will provide the perfect harmonic and rhythmic foundation.
