British Motor Museum: Ciao Inghilterra! How British Cars Got Italian Style

After the Second World War, British car manufacturing and design remained locked into pre-war styles. Steel was rationed and most manufacturers could not afford the development and engineering costs of new models – they simply tarted up their pre-war designs. But change was in the air. Exclusive manufacturers such as Bristol and Aston Martin began to commission designs from Italian studios. Soon other British car manufacturers followed suit and by the Swinging Sixties the model ranges of three major manufacturers were designed by Italians.

This British Motor Museum talk is devised and presented by volunteers and explores the design revolution which brought la dolce vita to Britain.
