When Oklahoma became a state in 1907, a new United States flag, with an additional star, was needed.
Do you know how this flag came about?
Was your ancestor one of the 92 ‘Betsy Rosses’ who participated in the creation of the new US flag?
In July of 1908, in Guthrie, the ‘Betsy Rosses’ of Oklahoma designed and sewed the 46 stars on both sides of the banner, reflecting the United States.
One of the ladies, Mrs. Bruington, created a poster. It is the inspiration for our PGS program. The framed poster is in the Pawnee Museum.
