Farmsteads: A South Dakota Architectural History

The story of agriculture is woven across the land and history of South Dakota. Historic farms are still found on long rural roads and in our towns today. Historian Liz Almlie will share some of the 19th and 20th century historic places across the state that tell stories of early sod and dugout houses, farming, ranching, irrigation, barn construction, scientific experiments, and post-WWII trends. Liz will also touch on the historic preservation of agricultural resources and what factors go into evaluating them for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
