Join us for an evening celebrating the sharp wit and bold lines of Barbara Shermund (1899- 1978), a pioneering cartoonist whose work helped shape The New Yorker in its earliest years. Known for her smart, stylish, and often subversive take on modern womanhood, Shermund broke barriers in a male-dominated field and became one of the first three women inducted into the National Cartoonists Society.

This special gallery opening features a curated selection of her original cartoons, offering a rare look at her legacy and artistic voice. The evening will include a talk by curator Timothy Stevenson, who will explore Shermund’s life, humor, and cultural impact.

Let’s share some laughs and rediscover the brilliance of Barbara Shermund.
