Early American Comb Basket Workshop

Early American Comb Basket - Sept. 28

In early America both colonists and native populations treasured combs. Not only prized for combing out hair, but they were also powerful tools for combing out lice. Combs were challenging to make and were often made of shell or wood, or for those more affluent, pewter or silver. Most of the population had no place to store them safely so they would not get stepped on and broken. The comb basket was a very practical solution as it was made to hang on the wall. Students will learn how to make a wall pocket and can design their own decorative pattern.
