Reader's Theatre- The Cafe Mocha Murders

The Webster City Community Theatre will host a Readers Theatre on Sunday, July, 27 at 3 p.m. in the lower level of the performing arts center, 1001 Willson Ave.
The group will read The Café Mocha Murders by Diana Strasse, which is the next production at WCCT. Ann McLaughlin, who will direct the production, will lead the reading. Performances are scheduled for October.
The play features a cast of 5 women and 4 men. Set during a raging storm in The Bean Shack, a cozy local coffee shop, an employee meeting goes horribly wrong when the lights suddenly go out—and someone ends up dead. What starts as an ordinary evening quickly spirals into an over-the-top comedy whodunit, filled with latte art quips, deep dives into caffeine trivia, and escalating suspicion. As the lights flicker back on, the surviving employees must unravel the mystery before the killer strikes again. This fast-paced, theatrical farce blends coffee culture with a cleverly surprising conclusion.
The play was the winner of the American Association of Community Theatre New Play Fest in 2022.
Reader’s Theatres offer a relaxed and engaging way to explore a play before auditions begin. These informal readings are open to everyone—whether you're a seasoned performer, new to the stage, or simply a fan of a good mystery. Come as you are, and feel free to bring a favorite drink and a snack to share!
