About the Play
The Hobbit is a full-length drama adapted for the stage by Patricia Gray, based on the classic J.R.R. Tolkien novel of the same name. Bilbo Baggins is swept up with Thorin Oakenshield and his company of dwarves, along with Gandalf the Grey, to slay Smaug the Dragon and win back their stolen treasure. The adaptation, officially authorized by Professor Tolkein in 1968, includes all the fictional characters of Tolkein's beloved epic tale of magic, treasure, and dragons.

This production will be directed by Hannah Slaughter.

Auditions will be held at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, 108 Nash Street NE, Wilson, NC 27893.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. There will be nothing to prepare in advance.

Auditions are free. If selected to participate in the program, there is a participation fee to help cover costs. For actors, the fee is $75 per person or $50 if you are a Wilson Arts member at the family level or higher.

PLEASE NOTE: ACT! for Youth programs are open to children in kindergarten through high school who live in Wilson County, or whose parent(s) live or work in Wilson County, or those who are contributors to Wilson Arts at the family level or greater. THESE CRITERIA MUST BE MET IN ORDER FOR YOUR CHILD TO BE CAST IN THIS PRODUCTION.
