Free and open to the public!
Tuesday, August 19th from 6 to 8 pm.
Join us for a tour of the Fox River lock system in Appleton! Hosted by our resident historian, Christine Williams, who will share the history of the four Appleton locks with you.
Wear your walking shoes, the tour starts under the College Avenue bridge at lock four and will end at lock one. The tour will cover 1.5 miles along the Fox River.
Christine will highlight the history of the locks, their construction, the lock masters and their families, and other historical information. Sheβll share the history of the fight for the locks survival in the 1980s and 90s, the creation of the Fox River Navigation System Authority, and its responsibility for maintaining and operating the locks. Parking at River Heath is a bit tight so we suggest parking at Telulah Park and walking down the hill. We hope that you join us for this fun and interesting evening!
