One of the true innovators of the new London jazz scene, tuba player and composer Theon Cross is known for his energetic live performances, blending jazz with elements of dub, soca, grime and sound-system culture.
Over the last few years, Theon Cross has single-handedly rewritten the rules of his instrument. His work with Sons of Kemet, Steam Down, Moses Boyd and Nubya Garcia, as well as his critically acclaimed solo records, has reset expectations of what the tuba can sound like.
Theon's live shows are characterized by powerful bass lines, rhythmic complexity, and a mesmerising stage presence. Fresh from the release of his latest album Affirmations, recorded live at the Blue Note New York, Theon will be playing Ronnie Scott’s for the first time under his own name – another key milestone for him.
For this special appearance, he will be accompanied by Ahnansé, founder of Steam Down on sax, long-time collaborator Nikos Ziarkas on guitar/bass and Nadav Schneerson on drums.
