“Old age offers us an opportunity - an opportunity to live.”

Celebrate National Book Lovers Day with us! We’re honoured to host Roger Clough, former Professor of Social Care at Lancaster University, who will share insights on the joys of old age and read from his captivating new book ‘Oldenland: A Journey in Search of the Good Last Years’. Plus, you’ll have the chance to get your book signed and ask questions!

Roger Clough is a true advocate for meaningful living as we age! With decades of experience in enhancing the quality of life in residential homes, he’s dedicated to understanding what truly matters to older adults. He played a central role in pioneering courses for senior care home staff in the 70s, carried out impactful social care research at Bristol and Lancaster University and had a spell as Chief Inspector of Social Services with Cumbria County Council. His first book – ‘Old Age Homes’ - was published in 1981. ‘Oldenland’ is his first book for a general, non academic audience.

Roger currently lives in a retirement village in the Peak District with his wife. They are navigating the paths of ‘Oldenland’ together.

With all this experience, both personal and academic, Roger is sure to to speak right to the heart of the issue when he visits Middleton Lodge this August.
