iZindaba Zokudla 2 August
We will meet on the 2nd of August in B3, University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus. We will meet at 9 am for a 930 am start.
Social media has become a key part of our lives. How do we employ these means to promote urban agriculture? What can we do as urban farmers to use these technologies for our benefit? How can we complement social media with face-to-face events?
2 leading urban farmers have been invited to share their experiences with using social media and organising events at their farms.
Tim Abaa (pls see https://www.facebook.com/tim.abaa/) is one of the leading agroecologists in Johannesburg. Tim is overseeing the construction of at least two training academies in Orange Farm and Weilers’ Farm.
Miems and Greg Mkhize are farming at Faranani Primary School in Protea glen. This multiple-award winning couple has developed the enterprise Siyoyisile Indlala (pls see: https://siyoyisileindlala.org.za/). This farm has been in the news multiple times and they employ social media extensively in promoting their farm.
Please join us for a workshop where we will navigate the benefits, challenges and limitations of social media as a marketing and educational tool for urban farmers. We will move the discussion also to hosting engagement events on site, and we will discuss what you can do to organise such an event.
Join us and bring your insights and concerns to the workshop.
