Beginner to intermediate — The first week is for beginners or someone who hasn’t crocheted in years and wants to start fresh. The other weeks are a continuation but can be signed up separately if someone wants to jump in.
Week 1: Crochet 101 — Getting Started with Foundational skills
Learn how to hold the hook and yarn
Make your first slip knot and chain
Practice the single crochet stitch (sc)
Tips for consistent tension and troubleshooting
Make your first swatch and learn the importance of testing your gauge
Week 2: Expand Your skills — Stitches & Combinations
Learn new stitches: double crochet (dc), half-double crochet (hdc), and slip stitch (sl st)
Learn how to combine stitches and skip stitches to create patterns
Learn how to count rows, switch yarns, and follow a pattern
Introduction to reading patterns and diagrams
Week 3: Motifs Overview — Granny Squares and beyond
Review of reading patterns and diagrams
Overview of different motifs in different shapes: circular, square, octagon, etc.
Practice motifs with a basic granny square
Learn how to combine motifs into a wide range of garments
Practice planning a piece from motifs
Week 4: Working in 3D — How to crochet shapes
Understanding how to crochet in 3D using increases and decreases for stuffed animals, cozies, baskets and other items
Discussion of materials and tools best suited for the purpose
Planning your work, joining the elements, how to hide ends and finish
Resources for continuing to grow your skills
