Asphalt Words and Ocean Dreams: Poetry Open Mic

We're a little late this month, and by a little I mean as late as physically possible - Asphalt will be on the 31st of July, 7pm at Hopsters Co-op Brewery!
Asphalt Words and Ocean Dreams (or Asphalt for short) is part open mic, part writing circle, and entirely a good time. Poets of all experience levels are invited to hone their skills. Each performer gets 3 minutes at the mic to share their own work or another’s, and after intermission, it turns into one of myriad exercises. This month, on the tail end of a very wonderful workshop, we will have a free workshop/poetry reading session. Bring a book you would like to share, or get ready to write a poem based on a number of exercises! If you don't have a book, we'll have some on hand too.
Come to perform, come to improve, come watch something special happen. There is a space for you here. Close your eyes, let the sound of tires grinding on bitumen fade into the lapping of waves on sand. Let go of the day you just had and sit back with a drink in your hand, and hear the call of the ocean in a place it has never kissed.
