One way or another, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. But most of all, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting, through her own charismatic, down-to-earth spirit with her audience.
Michael Tarbox writes songs anchored in hillbilly music, country blues and early rock ‘n’ roll. Atmospheric and shot through a sense of hard-earned perspective, they combine Tarbox’s vivid lyrics and a guitar sound that Twangville says “is as raw as it is charismatic.”
Tarbox came into his own as a musician after taking a deep dive into country blues records he’d heard around his parents’ house as a kid. “The more I listened to those old songs the more beautiful they seemed,” says Tarbox. "You couldn’t reach the bottom of music like that.” He started writing and, after a year of obsessive practice, formed The Tarbox Ramblers. The group released albums on Rounder, and worked with heroes like Jim Dickinson, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.
