The day will focus on the park’s natural resources and monitoring with multiple activities to include a special tour on the Yellow River boardwalk with making a nature journal, beginner birding, and a biodiversity scavenger hunt. Activities will also include learning about animal tracks, scats and furs, as well as learning new skills such as sampling techniques for aquatic insects, flower dissection and using a dichotomous key to identify various seeds. There will also be activities that focus on organisms’ ability to survive in their environments such as bird beak adaptations and camouflage.

This event is being conducted in partnership with the Iowa Stem Teacher Externships which pairs teachers with businesses and non-profits in the state to experience real world applications that they can share with their students as they prepare for future careers.
