Alachua County will host a free agritourism workshop on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cuscowilla Nature and Retreat Center (210 SE 134 Ave., Micanopy).
This half-day event is designed for anyone interested in or involved with agritourism, including farmers, ranchers, landowners, entrepreneurs, and others seeking to explore or expand agritourism opportunities on their property or in the community.
The workshop will provide guidance on topics such as zoning, permitting, fire safety, marketing, and collaborative agritourism promotion. Sessions will be led by staff from Alachua County Growth Management, Fire Rescue, and Tourism and Economic Development, offering expertise in land use regulations, public safety, and event marketing.
Participants will also hear directly from local agricultural operators during a panel discussion, which will highlight real-world experiences, lessons learned, and strategies for launching or sustaining agritourism ventures.
“This event is an opportunity to bring operators together to talk through real challenges and successes,” said Bailey McClellan, the county’s agricultural economic development coordinator. “Whether someone is just getting started or looking to grow, this workshop will offer tools and connections that can support their next step.”
Attendees will gain an understanding of how agritourism is addressed under Alachua County’s zoning and permitting framework, along with insights into the local application of Florida’s agritourism statutes. The agenda also includes a focused session on marketing resources available through Visit Gainesville, Alachua County.
