Foraging for Friends Annual Mud Springs Day Trip

We are SO VERY excited for our August 2025 foraging gathering!

It is called “Foraging for Friends” because we believe in the importance of developing relationships with the plant life around us, as well as connecting other humans with each other! COMMUNITY! All ages are welcome!

This trip is different than our usual FFF gatherings!

For our Annual Mud Springs Day Trip we walk a mile or so trail, identifying and learning about plants along the way. The trail ends at a swimming hole and recreational area for us to spend the day in nature sharing food, playing instruments, and creating memories.

Your safety is 100% your responsibility and no one will be held liable if an accident occurs.

While there will be people there with a bounty of knowledge on local and native plants - the point of this gathering is for us to develop our own relationships with any plants that call to us.

Here is how you can prepare for this gathering:

Eat breakfast or bring snacks with you! It is hot out there and you will get hungry quickly if you don’t eat before you come.

BRING A SWIM SUIT - we will be able to swim at the end of this walk!

Bring foraging books! Please reach out to us for recommendations

A protective hat to shade your face and eyes from the sun

A blanket, sheet, or mat if you find an area that you would like to sit and spend time in

Instruments - We will be playing instruments and making music for fun!

WATER AND SNACKS - please try and eat before you come as it can get hot out there and you’ll be thankful for the extra energy!

There will be ticks out here so I suggest wearing long pants that can tuck into your shoes and perhaps even long sleeves. Keeping your hair tied back and covered helps to keep ticks out of your hair.

The goal of this gathering is for us to TAKE OUR TIME and spend it in nature. In my opinion, the best and most fun way to learn is hands-on experience. You are both the teacher and the student here. You will learn new things and be able to share them with those around you.

Some people bring notebooks and pens/pencils to take notes and make drawings of the plants!

If you have any questions or would like to share anything - please post in the event section!

We will meet at the Welaka State Forest Mud Spring Trail head at 10am. We usually wait 15-20 minutes for people to arrive before we begin our hike. This trip does not have a designated end time. You are welcome to come and go as you please! :)
