Curious about improv quilting? Learn the basics in this class aimed at both beginner and advanced sewists and quilters. You’ll learn how to think about quilt blocks a little differently, and how to manage the piecing process in this style. It’s like jazz. . . for quilting! You add your own flair and make it up as you go.
Skills taught: 1) Improvising a traditional quilt block 2) Importance of seam allowance 3) How to join improv blocks 4) Design concepts
Prerequisites: Bring your own sewing machine. You will need to know how to use your machine, including threading, bobbin winding, basic functions and sewing a 1/4″ seam.
Materials list: Sewing machine, fabric (quilting cotton), neutral thread (grey, tan, white). Optional materials: Self-healing cutting mat, rotary cutter, quilting ruler. The classroom has a cutting station but bring your own if you’d like a dedicated cutting space.
