Into the Weeds: A Foraging Experience

This year’s Annual Lecture will feature Tama Matsuoka Wong – professional forager, purveyor to NYC restaurants, meadow doctor, and awarded author. She will speak about her most recent book, Into the Weeds: How to Garden Like a Forager, a sort of “anti-gardening” gardening book that reveals why even unplanted weeds are important for health, environment, and food. Ms. Wong will tell us precisely why this is so, and what forage gardening means to her personally. The event will take place on Thursday, October 9, beginning with a book signing and reception at 6:30 pm, followed by her presentation at 7pm. $15 per person. Free admission for estate members. Reservations are appreciated. Copies of Into the Weeds will be sold in the Gift Shop.

As an added bonus, on Friday, October 10, Tama will lead a foraging tour of the estate, revealing which plants chefs find the “top ten” vs merely edible (but taste like cardboard), and how identification is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to unlocking the secrets of deliciousness. Pre-registration for this special workshop is required, and spots are limited. $50 per person, with members receiving a 20% discount.
