Join us on the Sand and Fish Quays for our annual crab catching competition - look out for our banners on the New Quay beach. Bring your own crab lines and bait or we will have some available to be purchased on the day. No registration required, just bring the live crabs you wish to be weighed to our committee table.
1430. Competition commences. Any crabs caught before this time must be returned to the water.
Entry fee : Free
Categories:
Heaviest crab : 6 years and under, over 6s including family groups, overall*
Lightest crab : 6 years and under, over 6s including family groups, overall*
Trophies to be awarded only to the overall Heaviest and Lightest crabs.
Children under 6 are permitted to have adult help.
Followed by crab race. Fastest crab from those caught.
Please listen to advice from committee members about safe places to catch crabs. These are working quays and sometimes there might be a need to restrict areas for crabbing. The pontoon beside the Fish Quays is not to be used under any circumstances.
CRAB WELFARE
No hooks! Please use bait bags or crab nets instead.
Keep your bucket out of the sun. Only keep the crabs in sea water and top up regularly.
Do not overcrowd the bucket. Crowded conditions can result in fights between crabs.
Always return the crabs to the same spot where you caught them.
