Simon’s Seat walk .

An ascent of Simon’s Seat from Barden Bridge car park.
Arrive early as limited parking .
Should it be full , there is usually room on the road adjacent to Barden Tower .
We will walk downstream to the Cavendish Pavilion , about 2.5 miles , ( coffee stop ? ) then ascend via The Valley Of Desolation - passing a lovely waterfall . Through the woods onto open moorland with stunning views .
A short , slightly steep bit leads to easy walking to the top of Simon’s Seat
From here we descend taking in lovely views of Upper Wharfedale .
Continuing on , we reach Howgill and just follow this beautiful stretch of the River Wharfe back to the carpark .
If it’s good weather and folk feel fit , we can decide to opt for a longer route taking in views of Bolton Abbey ( priory ) as well as all the sections previously mentioned.
9 miles and just under 2000’ of ascent
12 miles longer route - only if all agree.
