Introduction to Chainsaw Safety Program

Whether cleaning up storm damage, clearing invasive species, cutting firewood, or general property upkeep and maintenance, the chainsaw remains a foundational and efficient tool for residents and landowners. However, it can also be one of the most dangerous if used without training and caution. The Woodland Wednesdays partners, along with the Maple Producers of Northeast Ohio, are offering a free introductory Chainsaw Safety Awareness that Works (CSAW) course through the Ohio Forestry Association. As a demonstration class, we will cover the basics of safety and equipment (with only the instructor operating a saw), and review many essential topics such as personal protection equipment, chainsaw safety features, proper maintenance, safe starting and handling, actions of a chainsaw, a felling plan walk-through, and spring pole/hazard mitigation. Funding for this program is provided by a Lake Erie Forestry Grant and lunch will be provided.
