Sandcastles at The Sand Bar

Celebrate summer and National Sandcastle Day with us on August 2nd at The Sand Bar by The Wharf! Join a professional sand sculptor on the beach for our first-ever Sandcastle Building Competition, plus fun activities for all ages.



Sand sculpting has a history dating back over 500 years and became a recognized profession in the late 1800s — around the same time the Jekyll Island Club was founded. Since then, building sandcastles has been a timeless beach tradition, bringing families and friends together to enjoy the sun, sand, and surf.

Competition Age Divisions

Minnows: Ages 1–3
Guppies: Ages 4–6
Flounder: Ages 7–9
Dolphin: Ages 10–12
Sharks: Ages 13 & up
