Hello,
We are meeting to share a Sangha & meditation session with the Australian Bon. Meet at MyMasseur 7 pm sharp to 8:30pm, they will be going live on zoom.
We have a projector and some chairs. Bring anything to make yourself comfortable.
Perhaps bring a sharing or food for discussion after.

The Australia Bön Mustang Foundation warmly invites you to join us for Sangha this Wednesday, 23rd of July.

This week will be a very special Sangha Gathering as it will be an opportunity to learn more about the seven day Phowa retreat happening this October in Nepal. Geshe Sonam wants to use the session to teach about Phowa and share why this practice is so important on the spiritual path. After the teaching, there will be time for Q&A, including logistical questions about the Nepal trip.

This session is open to everyone, whether or not you’re planning to go to Nepal or not.

The Sangha will be held live on Zoom with Geshe Sonam. Geshe will be dialling in from overseas. You can join the Sangha in person at our location in East Melbourne or virtually on Zoom.
What is Phowa?

Phowa is a central practice in the Tibetan Bön tradition, focused on preparing for the moment of death. Because death is a time seen as one of the most powerful opportunities for spiritual transformation.

The word Phowa means “transference” or “ejection,” referring to the conscious transfer of awareness from the physical body into a pure realm or enlightened state at the time of death.

This meditation practice combines visualization, breath, mantra, and energy awareness. While Phowa is traditionally associated with the moment of death, it also supports how we live. It helps us let go of fear, regret, and the things we hold onto too tightly. It offers a way to clear emotional and energetic blockages and to face change, including loss and transition, with more peace and trust.

If you’d like to explore more, Chapter 15 of the ATRI text offers a clear and accessible introduction to Phowa. We suggest you read this chapter before Sangha gathering. You can purchase the whole ATRI text here. For an extended read on the topic, you can read Book Six in Self-Arising Three-fold Embodiment of Enlightenment: "Training for the Jaws of Death, The Great Staircase of Emancipation".

While it appears at the end of the text, this practice is not reserved for advanced students. Geshe Sonam says Phowa is taught early because it reminds us that the purpose of practice is to learn how to let go (in life and in death) with clarity and compassion.
