Lecture – The Taubman Approach with Nina Tichman, 5.15pm – 6pm

Winner of important international competitions – Busoni, Mendelssohn, Casagrande – Nina Tichman was Professor of Piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne from 1993-2024. Nina’s teachers included Ilona Kabos, Hans Leygraf, Alfons Kontarsky, Wilhelm Kempff and also Dorothy Taubman who founded the Taubman Institute of Piano and developed the Taubman approach to playing. Today Nina will talk about the Taubman Approach and how it can be incorporated into both your own playing and into teaching.

Murray McLachlan: Fantasy and Fantasia, 7pm

Murray McLachlan, founder and artistic director of the summer school, returns to a programme from his student years that presents cornerstone works by Bach and Chopin, in contrast to three operatic commentaries on ‘Carmen’, ‘Petere Grimes’ and ‘Doktor Faust’.
