Upper Mackinaw River Cleanup

Join Central Illinois Kayaking and Floating and the Friends of EverBloom to help clean up the Mackinaw River. This will be the first of two planned Mackinaw River cleanups this year. Interested volunteers should meet at 10AM on Saturday July 26 at the Main parking lot at Parklands Merwin Preserve (West Gate). Volunteers will be split into two general groups. One group will be working on shore only cleaning up Mackinaw canoe/kayak launch sites near Lexington and Hudson. We anticipate that this group will be done around noon. A second group will focus on cleaning up the river starting at Parklands Merwin Preserve and moving downstream. This group will use canoes and kayaks for the clean-up. The on-river cleanup will be physically challenging and will involve pulling trash and tires from the river and loading into boats. We anticipate finishing sometime in the afternoon. As of now, you will need to bring your own canoe/kayak.
Lunch, gloves, and trash bags will be provided. Rain date will be Sunday, July 27.
Thank you to our sponsors, Plaza Tire, Don Owen Tire, SLK Renovations, Ecology Action Center, and Friends of Everbloom!
