Join local textile artist Angela Daymond as you learn about the gentle art of stitch.
You will embroider a butterfly onto a pre-made calico pouch using just one stitch, the basic running stitch. This type of stitching is known as kantha work and is over 500 years old. The workshop will suit all levels of ability even total beginners. Angela will demonstrate and guide you through every stage of the stitching process; tracing a design onto fabric, how to start and finish your stitches, how to doing a running stitch and a whipped running stitch. You will have the choice of stitching a Holly Blue butterfly or a Brimstone butterfly, both are seen on the RSPB reserve. This type of stitching is really relaxing and achievable for everyone.
Angela is a qualified primary school teacher and moved into teaching adults ten years ago. She loves to pass on her skills and encourage people to create and make things. She is a textile artist and has designed a popular range of kits and written many books on kantha stitching. Her work is inspired by nature, especially the hares that she sees frequently hear her home. Angela teaches up and down the country, has a studio in Spalding and teaches online via Zoom.
