Members of an acting troupe (Lombard, Benny) are out to thwart a German informant in Nazi-occupied Poland. Initially disparaged by critics for its slapstick portrayal of Hitler’s regime, To Be or Not to Be became a celebrated satire and is still one of the funniest movies of the period.
