This August, join us at Cultarlann Inbhir Nis with our series of Cultar Cèilidh events: where visitors and locals can enjoy and take part in Gaelic music, song and dance.
Tickets can be bought at the door on the day or on Eventbrite for a small booking fee.
This Fireside Ceilidh is led by gold-medallist Gaelic singer and composer Màiri Callan. This traditional-style Cèilidh is an informal event, where the audience is encouraged to join in with a song, a story or simply by listening. We are delighted be joined by young local musicians from Feis na h-Oige. Food and drinks will be served by our volunteers at the cafe.
Màiri Callan is a composer, arranger and performer. She graduated BMus Hons (First Class) from The University of Edinburgh in 2023. Her musical experience spans the traditional and classical genres, having grown up in a home filled with traditional Gaelic music and song before studying classical voice with Paul Keohone and Kenna Campbell, and both traditional and classical lever harp with Savourna Stevenson. In 2021, she won the An Comunn Gàidhealach Gold Medal at the Royal National Mod. In 2022, her jazz arrangement for piano and voice of the Gaelic satire, Cailleach Mhòr Stadhlaigh was selected for the St Andrews Scottish Songbook. Her project Slighe Fonn na Bàrdachd: Bho Bhalbhachd nan Duilleag gu Binn-ghuthan an t-Sluaigh - The Musical Journey of Verse: From Silent Page to the Melodious Voices of the People was premiered at the Blas Festival in September 2024.
