Warralgurniya is a one-of-a-kind folk-country band from WA’s Pilbara, led by 92-year-old Aboriginal stockman Peter Salmon — a storyteller, language keeper and living legend. In this first and only Darwin performance, Peter takes the stage with his band, including longtime collaborator Rosie Sitorus, to share powerful songs in Thiinma language, drawn from a lifetime on the land.
Through music, humour and raw honesty, he tells stories of growing up on WA's pastoral stations in the 1930s and ‘40s. His is a remarkable journey through a changing and often hostile world, holding onto his Thiinma culture while walking in the white mans' world.
The music blends contemporary folk and country with ancient knowledge and the rhythm of traditional Thiinma songlines in this unique cross-cultural experience. Come fill your heart with a deep appreciation of the rich diversity of this country, and share a short moment with a living legend.
